The art direction of the film Hugo had been described has the one major plus for the film besides its beautiful cinematography.With some of the colourful choices of costumes and the amazing set designs takes us to another world.Dante Ferretti, Francesca Lo Schiavo who had been nominated 7 times and won twice for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street and Aviator collaborates with Dorothee Baussan .
2.Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2
The last installment of the Harry Potter film saw lots of impressive set designs from the art department.The Gringotts,Bellatrix vaults,Hogsmeade,the Shell cottage,the boathouse,Hogwarts which is destroyed and the catwalk by the Quad.The duo Stephanie Mcmillan and Stuart Craig had been nominated four times and won once for The English Patient
3.The Artist
The art department of the film The Artist had created the sets to bring the old Hollywood feel to the screen.Since its a black and white film,the art department had more work compare to a normal film to make the set to stand out and Laurence Bennet had succeeded it.
4.Jane Eyre
The latest adaptation of the novel Jane Eyre had some stunning work of sets design by the art department.Frame after frame is beautifully done and thanks to the costume department and the art direction team,we are transported to the 19th century.The duo Will Hughes Jones and Tina Jones had only done art direction in some TV films and TV series before Jane Eyre.
5.War Horse
The AMPAS loves periodic and war films and War Horse which has a setting during World War 1.Its a Steven Spielberg movie and you don't expect small explosion and normal sets,everything is big, the explosion and the sets would be amazing.Rick Carter who was nominated for his work in Forest Gump another war film collaborate with Lee Sandales assures a great art direction for the film.
