5 Underrated Films

Freshly from Oscars,I would like to dedicate this post on my favourite underrated film that is surprisingly good that got overlooked mainly for its content and lack of star power.Whats your favourite underrated film?

1.Black Death

A knight and his companions travel to locate and capture a necromancer who is said to bringing dead  to alive.
Pluses
-Wonderfully acted by Sean Bean,Carice Van Houten and Eddie Redmayne
-Beautiful dark backdrops which set the tone of the film without being so obvious

2.All Good Things

Based on the true events of the disappearance of Kathie Durst, the film has Kirsten Dunst has the victim wife and Ryan Gosling as the creepy husband.
Pluses
-The performance of Kirsten Dunst and Ryan Gosling is award worthy. It's a shock when Ryan Gosling who gave performance like this along with Blue Valentine was snubbed for an Oscar nod last year.

3.Chloe

A wife hires a prostitute to investigate whether her husband is faithful to her but things take a dark turn when the prostitute  falls for the wife.
- Amanda Seyfried as the manipulative prostitute and huge eyes was perfect to depict the lustful and lonely Chloe.Amanda is a talented actress and she should choose her future projects wisely.Lovelace looks promising and risky at the same time.

4.Carriers

Post the outbreak of a deadly flesh eating virus, two brothers and their girlfriends  decide to take a trip across the country to their parents cabin.
-the script is so different compared to other apocalypse film.the screenplay is brilliant and makes us wonder what we would do at their situation
-Piper Perabo,Emily Vancamp  and Chris Pine all gave a commendable job.The shocking performance in the film belongs to sick child of Christopher Meloni .

5.Freedom Writers

Pure Talent-Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst

This week I wanna just list some of the best performance of Kirsten Dunst who had been acting since she was eight years old.Check it out.

Some other honorable mentions

Wimbledon
Marrie Antoinette
Little Women
Jumanji

6.Spider-Man Films
Its very rare for the love interest in a male centric film given some importance, let alone a superhero film.Herc character Mary Jane Watson were given some depth and her performance and her chemistry with Tobey Maguire was so convincing. The role also manages to showcase her singing talent.

5.Interview With The Vampire
Her performance as the child vampire Claudia is creepy in a good way.

4.Mona Lisa Smile
In a big cast and opposite Julia Robberts,Her performance as the the arrogant student was one of the few plus point of the film and the most memorable one.

3.Crazy/Beautiful
Another mature performance by Kirsten Dunst. She plays this young rebel who both unknowingly and knowingly corrupts her  innocence good boyfriend. Its another side of Kirsten Dunst that we rare see onscreen and the scene of her confronting her father.

2.All Good Things
A underrated film where both Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst were at the top notch.Dunst plays the Kathie Marks who during the early part of the film is a radiant, beautiful girl who got married to David Marks and as the film progresses, she plays a independent woman who is afraid about her husband weird behaviour, want a way out from the marriage and at the same time loving her husband.Kirsten Dusnt performance in this film is one of its major pluses. You see the emotional transformation of the character Kathie through Dunst portrayal and even after she is missing ,she continues to haunt the film.Usually I can choose my favourite scene in a movie but in this movie almost every scene Kirsten Dunst is in is superb especially the before the abortion scene.

1.Melancholia
Her best performance as the depressed bride at the end of the world is probably the best performance in her career. She doesn't speak much throughout the film but still we feel her agony through her body language and expression. Her performance in this film is Oscar nod worthy and I'm still mad that she got snubbed this year.

She has some interesting projects ahead her the black comedy Bachelorette and the Oscar bait role of a prostitute in the Red Light Winter

Best Director-Terrence Malick, The Tree of Life

-well deserved.Kirsten was great in Melancholia and I hope she would slip in the final nominee for Best Actress for the Oscars

-a veteran  actor who did a splendid job in the Beginners

84th Academy Awards-Best Actress(predictions)

1.Meryl Streep(winner)
My predicted winner is Meryl Streep as the first female British prime minister,Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.I haven't see the film yet but based on the trailer,Meryl Streep was superb.I loved her accent and she looked confident portraying the character .Since it's Meryl Streep ,who is the best actress of our time and with the AMPAS loving her,I feel its gonna be her third win.Meryl Streep had been nominated for 16 times and won twice for Kramer vs Kramer and Sophie Choice.

2.Michelle Williams
For capturing the soft, vulnerable and painful side of the sex symbol Marilyn Monroe in the film My Week With Marilyn.Externally Michelle Williams does not resemble Monroe but she manages to bring the icon alive on screen by the way she moves ,winks or smile.Michelle Williams had been nominated for the Oscars(Best Supporting Actress in Brokeback Mountain,Best Actress  for Blue Valentine) and could be winning her first gold statue this year if campaigned well.Besides My Week With Marilyn,Michelle Williams performance in this year Meek's Ccutoff and Take This Waltz also received critical acclaimed.

3.Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton for the portrayal of the mother who cant stand her child and later a struggling mother who is tormented by the nature of her son.She was brilliant playing both stages of mother in the film and which makes you feel both sympathetic and angry with her.Tilda  won her Best Supporting Actress statue for Michael Clayton and I need to mention her Oscar snub performances in Julia,I Am Love and The Deep End.

4.Viola Davis
Viola Davis for the heartwarming portrayal of Abileen, the maid with the big heart in the film The Help.Viola Davis who is well known for her very small role in Doubt for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress shows she can carry a film by herself. Her emotional performance of her maid who had just lost her child but still could give love to a child of a family that would never appreciate her  received critical acclaim.Viola Davis has a brighter chance of winning if campaigned as supporting actress.

5.Kirsten Dunst
For brilliantly  portraying a bride who falls  in depression on the first half of the film and a calm recovering women during the stressful apocalypse in the film Melancholia. Her role is almost a non-speaking role as she doesn't talk much at all but she delivers a superb performance in every scene. She's gonna face tough competition from the newbies Elizabeth Olsen,Felicity Jones and Rooney Mara but being a  very well known actress and in her first serious role,I feel Kirsten could beat them.
