The Sessions ,Silver Linings of Playbook-trailers

The Sundance hit The Sessions, previousily known as The Surrogate staring John Hawkes as the polio infected male searching for a sex surrogate to lose his virginity.Critics are loving this film and many had predicted the film and its cast to be a strong cottender for the Oscars despite its risky theme.Check out the suprisingly funny trailer and John Hawkes not only looks different in this film,he shines in every scene he is in.

The second trailer is from the movie Silver Linings of Playbook staring Bradley Cooper,Jennifer Lawrence,Robert DeNiro and Julia Stiles. The film is about a man(Cooper) just out from a mental instutition wants to fixed the relationship  with his wife.Despite the age gap, both Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence's chemistry looks convincing and this is Bradley's second film with DeNiro who plays his tough football loving dad.

Primetime Emmy Awards-- Part 1(Supporting Actress)

I don't usually post about TV shows but the lots of new shows this year had really caught my eye for its originality and amazing cast.So here is some of my favourite Emmy worthy performances  throughout the first half of this year.Note that I only included the newbies and possible first time nominees.

Lana Parrilla  as the Evil Queen and Regina in Once Upon a Time Season 1
-Lana Parrilla is the scene stealer of the series.Every time she is onscreen she just shine and mesmerise us with her performance of the multilayer character.Being the antagonist of the series,Lana's take on Regina the Mayor is very subtle. Her controlled body language and facial expression perfectly embodies the evil queen in disguise with a thirst for revenge. While as the Evil Queen, she excels in the emotional scenes with ease and it is sympathetic. There have been three takes on the Evil Queen this year, and clearly Lana Parrilla beats Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron  as we actually sometime find ourself kinda rooting for the Evil Queen/Regina.

Elisha Cuthbert as Alex Kerkovich in Happy Endings Season 2
-Elisha proves that you can be beautiful and talented at the same time.Playing the quirky dumb friend of the group, she is extremely funny whenever she opens her mouth. Her chemistry with all the cast especially with  Casey Wilson is A-mah-zing.

Lauren Potter as Becky Johnson in Glee Season 3
-Lauren Potter portrayal of Becky in the episode Yes/No is tear jerking and honest.I always find Glee very clumsy , Lea Michelle oriented but its supporting cast that carry the show and Lauren Potter is one of them. The scene where she tries to maintain a normal face after getting dumped and then breaks down in front Sue is definitely Emmy worthy.

Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister in Game Of Thrones Season 2
-Cersei Lannister  the most evil bitch to ever  being created..Having said that,Cersei is a very complex multilayered character.Lena Headey performance in Blackwater clearly showcased how complex  Cersei is.Cersei is a queen,a mother,a wife and most importantly a woman in a sexist.Headey nailed every scene in this particular episode and again makes the audience to be sympathetic to this cruel and cunning character. Her cynical conversation with Sansa and then showing vulnerability  with Tommen is not only worthy for a nod but a win.

Casey Wilson as Penny Hartz in Happy Endings Season 2
-Another funny actress from the series Happy Endings.Wilson is really good playing the desperate Penny. She has excellent comedic timing and her quirkiness is adorable.

Laurie Holden as Andrea in Walking Dead Season 2
- The Character Andrea has the best character development throughout the season. She was suicidal at the beginning and later becomes a emotionally strong character an a leader at some point.Laurie Holden consistently gives a strong performance especially the first episode.

Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark in Game Of Thrones
-Michelle Fairley playing the matriarch of the Starks is one of the best performance from the amazing cast. She showcased strength and vulnerability as Cat when she counsels Robb and her scenes with Brienne are superb.

Naya Rivera as Santana Lopez in Glee
-Naya Rivera performance as Santana Lopez in Mash Off and I kissed a Girl is the highlight of Season 3 when Finn outed her publicly.Rivera showcased great acting chops when her character comes out to her grandmother and when she breaks down after Finn outed her.

Megan Hilty as Ivy Lynn  in Smashed
- Ivy is very similar to Rachel Berry of Glee. They are both great vocalist, ambitious and willing to do anything to get a role but the only difference is Ivy is more likable than Rachel and the actresses who portray them play a big role in making it likable.Ivy embodies the positive side of being ambitious while Rachel only whines about having a boyfriend and getting married .Compared to Katherine McPhee,Megan did a perfect Marilyn Monroe in vocal and acting wise.

Viva Bianca as Ilithyia in Spartacus Vengeance
- After the departure of John Hannah, both Lucy Lawless and Viva Bianca are the only actors that carry the show with their bold performance.Viva Bianca portrayal of the crazy, weird daughter of the Senator is  really good as her character takes a softer turn.

Maisie Williams as Arya Stark in Game Of Thrones
-It is very surprising that this is Maisie Williams first acting role. She gives a mature performance and even overshadowing her older cast mates in every scene she is in.The interaction between Arya Stark and Tywin Lannister clearly showcase how good the writers of GOT is and Maisie being at par with seasoned actors like Charles Dance.

Rosa Salazar as Zoe in Parenthood
-Another newcomer who who is clearly a scene stealer. The character Zoe is a emotional wreck like a headless chicken.Yes there is similarities with Juno but Salazar clearly gives a strong performance to match Ellen Page.

Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones
-Sophie Turner being only 15 during the shooting of  her scenes definitely embodies Sansa Stark in every episode she is in despite the risky and tough scenes she has to shoot.Sansa is a very internal character. She is a passive character who keeps growing and perhaps has the best character development throughout the series.Turner clearly had the most difficult scenes  in the series keeping her age in mind(getting stripped and publicly beaten, puberty, near rape scene during the riot).Just like her co-star Maisie,Sophie also gives a mature performance in her won way.Blackwater  is probably  is where Sophie best scenes are especially her scene with Sandor where she says 'You won't hurt me' and her scenes with Tyrion and Joffrey before the battle.

Busy Phillips as Laurie Keller in Cougar Town
-Another dumb blond role but  it is quite different as she says the dumbest thing which eventually help the other characters. All the scenes of Busy with the other neighbour Ellie just makes you laugh until your eyes are watery.

Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepperd in Private Practice
-While its always Grey's Anatomy cast gets recognised for their performances,PV also have some award worthy performance by some  of its cast.Caterina performance  in 'Who You are' is really good. The whole episode is quite intense and Caterina manages give a perfect performance as the drug addict whose addiction got so worse that a intervention is carried out by the other doctors. If you ignore the cliche flashback ,it was a solid performance by Caterina.

So which one of these are your favourites? If you have other suggestions ,just leave in  the comment section.

The Master -Trailer

Finally the trailer of Paul Thomas Anderson The Master featuring Phillip Seymour Hoffman,Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams.Again the trailer is Joaquin centric but this time we get glimpses of The Master and his wife. The film really have this 60s feel to it and I'm really looking forward for it.

And here is trailer for the musical comedy Pitch Perfect staring Brittany Snow and Anna Kendrick. Its about all girl Capella group(singing without instrument) trying to win the competition.Based on the trailer, it looks very interesting  and the film reminds us that Anna Kendrick can definitely sing.Rebel Wilson is extremely funny and looks like she is gonna be the scene stealer of the film.

Django Unchained-Trailer

So here is the trailer for the Quentin Tarantino directed Django Unchained. The film which has an impressive cast of  Jamie Foxx,Kerri Washington,Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio is about the journey of a former slave trying to save his captured wife by a ruthless slave owner.
The trailer is quite good and humorous despite of its serious plot, something common in Tarantino's  movie. By just watching the trailer,Leonardo DiCaprio stood out with his  performance and look as the charming/cold villain CalvinCandie .The costumes also look superb. The choices of colour for this kind of western genre film is different and eye catching.

85th Academy Awards-Best Supporting Actor(predictions)

1.Joaquin Phoenix,The Master(predicted winner)

-After a long time,Joaquin is gracing the screen playing a drifter Freddie Sutton who begins to question his faith  towards this new religion.I was very impressed by just watching the trailer of The Master which featured only Joaquin and with Paul Thomas Anderson directing  just increase the Oscar chances.

2.Leonardo DiCaprio,Django Unchained

- Leonardo plays Calvin Candie, a  charming ruthless character  just like  the one Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds.Leonardo is no stranger to the Oscars as he had been nominated three times and snubbed for his performances in Departed , Shutter Island and J.Edgar.He is one of the actors who have tried all the genres of film proving his versatility as an actor. This could be Leonardo's year as he also has The Great Gatsby in the Lead category.

3.Russell Crowe,Les Miserables

-The Oscar Winner will portraying Inspector Javert,a guy who  respects the law and believes human cannot  truly change.I have never heard him sing but he is a respectable actor. If he can do justice to the suicide scene of his character in the film ,then Russell Crowe should be expecting his next Oscar nod.

4.Robert De Niro,Silver Lining Playbook

-Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper's chemistry was one of the reason Limitless was so fun to watch. In this film De Niro plays Bradley's  moody but loving father.

5.Tobey Maguire,The Great Gatsby

-Tobey Maguire will be playing  Nick Carraway the quiet neighbour of Jay Gatsby from Minnesota. He is the narrator in the books  and he becomes the point that connects Daisy(Carey Mulligan ) and Jay Gatsby.Tobey was brilliant in films like Brothers and Pleasantville

Others who might be a strong contender for this category:

6.William H.Macy,Six Sessions(previously known as The Surrogate)

Previous Oscar Worthy performances: Fargo,Magnolia,Pleasantville

7.Jude Law,Anna Karenina
Previous Oscar Worthy performances: Talented Mr.Ripley,Closer,Cold Mountain,Contagion,Hugo
8.Woody Harrelson,Seven Psychopaths

Previous Oscar Worthy Performances: Rampart,The Messenger,People Vs Larry Flynt,Hunger Games,Zombieland

Perks Of Being A Wallflower-Trailer

So here is the trailer of the anticipated film  Perks of Being Wallflower.Directed by the  Steven Chbosky, author himself with Logan Lerman ,Emma Watson,Ezra Miller ,Mae Whitman and more as the main cast. The film is about  the coming of age story of Charlie(Lerman) who is a passive shy boy as he befriends the two open minded siblings who are not afraid to stand out and try new things.

This is the kinda film that could surprise everyone and  receive critical acclaim as it tackles bold subjects like sex, drugs and abuse among teenagers.Just like Juno, this film has all the ingredient to be a indie favourite.I'm particularly looking forward for Ezra Miller take of Patrick the funny gay guy in the film who actually becomes a mentor to Charlie about sex and girls.
